worries about work

Finding ways of reducing the pressure and switching off

Work is where most people will spend the majority of their time, which makes it so important to try and make the experience of our working lives as pleasant as possible. For many people this can be very challenging. Work can be a place where people feel anxious about their relationships with colleagues and their ability to perform to a standard they feel good about. Some people may be experiencing bullying or exclusion at work. Some might find it hard to stay motivated and positive about the tasks they need to complete. Others may feel unable to “switch off”, and that they are bringing the worries of their work life home with them at evenings and weekends.

Many people are not in the job they wish to be in and would like to change jobs or retrain but don’t know how. Some people would like to be more ambitious in their professional lives but feel something is getting in the way. Others feel that pressure and ambition have taken over their ability to relax and enjoy any free time whatsoever.

Attending to your emotional needs in your professional life is crucial to maintaining a good balance that can allow you to function to your full potential. Learning better time management, confidence, self esteem and assertiveness strategies can all be helpful ways to make the most out of our working lives. In addition, we only have so much downtime, so it’s vital we are able to make the most of it in whichever way feels right for us.
